Kentucky Derby Odds: The Factor Proves How Awesome He Is

Wow, now that was something! Although the Bob Baffert trained The Factor had been questioned by a number of Kentucky Derby odds betting handicappers, the questioning didn’t appear to bother the horse in the least.
The Factor scored a front running victory in the Grade II Rebel at Oaklawn Park this past Saturday. He takes a quantum leap up my power rankings. I’m still not ready to put him first, but the victory was incredible. It was probably the most scintillating Kentucky Derby prep victory that I’ve seen this year.

Kentucky Derby Power Rankings
- To Honor And Serve - - I’ve still got him on top. If he takes home the Florida Derby on April 3, then forget about getting decent odds on this guy on race day. He needed the Fountain of Youth. So, the third place finish doesn’t bother me.
- Uncle Mo - - His online Kentucky Derby betting odds will be low. That’s the knock. His victory in the Timely Writer should set him up well for the Wood Memorial. The difference between Uncle Mo and The Factor is that Uncle Mo can rate. The Factor hasn’t proven he has the ability to do that yet.
- The Factor - - When you’re as fast as The Factor, you might not need to learn how to rate. Bob Baffert could have another amazing horse on his hands. The Factor not only ran a freaking ¾ miles in 1:10 but won by 6 ¼ lengths. The one issue might be that he ran his last split in 25 seconds, but it was still an awesome performance.
- Dialed In - - Look, it’s okay to lose a Kentucky Derby prep, which is what Dialed In did in his last, an allowance race, because the goal is to be ready on May 7. Dialed In should offer excellent Kentucky Derby odds online in the BetUS Sportsbook this week. A victory, or second place finish to To Honor And Serve in the Florida Derby would signal his readiness for a Run for the Roses.
- Stay Thirsty - - The Bernardini sired, Todd Pletcher trained colt is getting no love from a lot of horseplayers because he hasn’t run a truly fast number yet. That doesn’t bother me. It doesn’t bother me yet, anyhow. If Stay Thirsty improves in the Florida Derby, and really shows a turn of foot, then he’ll jump to the top of the class. He’s bred to be awesome.
- Premier Pegasus - - I really didn’t think that this guy had it in him but he won the San Felipe Stakes in breathtaking fashion. The Kentucky Derby betting online odds should plummet on Premier Pegasus this week. The horse was sired by a Kentucky Derby winner, Fusacichi Pegasus, and is out of a mare whose daddy won the Preakness, Summer Squall.
- Soldat - - The Kiaran McLaughlin trainee has won its last 2 races, both at 1 1/8 miles, one being the Grade II Fountain of Youth, in spectacular fashion. The Florida Derby is going to be incredibly tough, however. If Soldat wins the Florida Derby, he might go off as the chalk on May 7.
- Mucho Macho Man - - The victory in the Grade II Risen Star was nice. A Louisiana Derby victory this weekend would be excellent. He’s probably going to need to improve in the LA Derby, however, even though he’s got more graded stakes experience than anybody else on this list.
- Gourmet Dinner - - I believe that this son of Trippi could be the dark horse in the Run for the Roses on May 7. If horseplayers can get awesome Kentucky Derby future odds on this guy in the BetUS Sportsbook, they might want to think about backing him. The Steve Standridge trainee has the right style, pressing without being too close or too far off of the pace to score a victory in the Derby.
- Sweet Ducky - - Running in the UAE-Derby in Dubai on March 26 makes all of the sense in the world. Sweet Ducky could take home the winner’s share of a 2 million purse. Then, if he wins the UAE-Derby, his connections could rest him up for a Kentucky Derby run.
